In Virginia, 1 out of every 8 people are struggling with hunger. The Campus Kitchen at Virginia Tech is working hard to end hunger in the areas surrounding Virginia Tech as well as in the New River Valley. Unused, safe, good quality food from the dining halls is carefully kept, prepared and transported by student volunteers to local places and people in need. Perry Martin, Senior Associate Director for community learning with VT Engage, is the facility advisor for the Virginia Tech Campus Kitchen. He is excited about the future of this organization and the possibilities that just opened up with a generous donation from The Smithfield Foundation. With more money and more opportunities, the organization will be able to perform more efficiently in helping provide hunger relief to the area.
